The increased presence of AMPA receptors in the Postsynaptic density (PSD) enhances the sensitivity of the postsynaptic neuron to Glutamate.

Memory relation

With more AMPA receptors, the Postsynaptic membrane / Neuron can generate stronger depolarization in response to presynaptic Glutamate release. This increases sensitivity (I think in the PSD?) and can lead to more Synaptic plasticity because NMDA threshold for activation gets hit more easily.

So: AMPA receptor in PSD -> more sensitivity Glutamate -> can make easier to reach NMDA receptors activation threshold which is necessary for Long term potentiation (LTP)

AMPA reinforces the synaptic connection

AMPA receptor buildup can also contribute to the stability of synaptic changes over time. By reinforcing the synaptic connection, AMPA receptor buildup helps maintain the synaptic changes induced by plasticity mechanisms, which is crucial for long-term memory formation and stability.
