Agreeing on them is very important for alignment and scale.
Strategy: Plans and actions to take on a specific problem.
Vision: documents that lets people that don’t work together make decisions that fit together cleanly.
The hard part might be describing the resource constraints of problems. That’s an important but mundane part of strategy.
No extent of artistry can solve a problem that you’re unwilling to admit.
A strategy has three components:
Diagnosis: the challenge description.
Policies: The strategy itself (how will you get there, what is the high level route, what approach will you take?)
Action: What can you do to make the strategy work? What decisions should you make?
Mostly taken from Will Larson’s writing on strategy (which builds on Richard Rumelt’s Good Strategy Bad Strategy).
