Practice

  • Stay at the Edge of ability.

Reading

  • Inspectional reading; what are the outlines of the field?
  • What are the fundamentals? Like ball control in soccer, or perhaps a jab in kickboxing? The ‘subskill’ you need, that repeats over and over while practicing the full skill.
  • Practice Desirable uncomfortably - learning should be demanding and effortful. Not unpleasant, but discomfort.
  • Reflect on progress, by creating notes that sum up what you learned. Draw it out!
  • Identify what makes you curious. Ask yourself frequently and consciously: what makes me curious about this?

From Book Ultralearning:

  • Learn how to learn the thing you want to learn.
  • Focus and dedicate time to learning. Ideally find somewhere with no distractions.
  • Do the thing you want to be good at.
  • Find your weakest points and work on those.
  • Test yourself.
  • Get feedback. It’s harder for self-learners but ideally you’ll have someone to evaluate your work.
  • Don’t just accept the answer as the answer. Understand why it’s the answer and build your own understanding of how to get there.
